Sulu-Licious

George Takei ("Mr. Sulu" of the original Star Trek series) and his lover Brad were so gracious. We had about 60 people turn up at the reception (after only a few day's notice), and George spoke with everyone, took his time, took photos and shared his wit and sexy voice with an appreicative audience. We saw Asians and Friends folks from way before my time show up and get some Sulu; it was outstanding. My highlight was presenting him with a box of Chicago Chocolate Factory sweets and him telling the audience how things that are bad for you go in cycles and that chocolate--with all its anti-oxidants--is now good for you again. I parted my middle fingers and said, "Well then, live long and prosper!"

Mr. Sulu and Asians & Friends

George Takei, "Mr. Sulu" from Star Trek, is going to be Grand Marshal at this year's Gay Pride Parade here in Chicago. Mr. Takei came out a few months ago and made a few headlines. Well, the gay, social group I'm in called Asians & Friends e-mailed him and said we wanted to welcome him to the city with a reception. We didn't hear for a while and then lo' and behold, last Tuesday, his people said "Yes, he would be happy to drop in." Well surprise, surprise. So we quickly put a reception together for this Saturday, June 24 , here in Chicago at the High Risk Gallery. It'll be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 1113 W. Belmont. It's free, so we hope people come. It'll be a Trekkie blast!

Abcede's in Chicago

My brother, his wife and their sons, Max and Nick, were in Chicago all last week. We did a ton of stuff, including the King Tut exhibit at the Field Museum, Wicked the musical and Millenium Park. Here are a few shots. They left today to continue onto Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania.

Cast of South Pacific

Here are a few photos of me and the cast of South Pacific. The run ended last week.

No Cats

The production of Cats that was supposed to happen where I just did Miss Saigon fell through on a technicality with the rights. I had been cast and would have been assistant choreographer. Now when South Pacific is over this weekend, I won't have a show to do. (Well, I'll be busy all next week when my brother George, his wife Julie and their sons Max and Nick come to Chicago. But after that, I'll be free to focus on just a few things, including my job and online school.) I'm looking forward to the summer.
