L.A. Memories Saved!

When I lost my camera last week in D.C. while on a U.S. battleship (at our magazine's executive conference), I lost a bunch of pictures of our L.A. Nunsense experience. But thankfully, Mikey, one of our nuns, just sent us the pictures he took. I'm so relieved. My L.A. memories live on!

Birthday Blowout

Time for another pizza lunch to honor our staff's September birthdays. We had a cute time taking a moment out of our day yesterday to enjoy pizza and chummy conversation. Here the guests of honor, Steve and Sam, make a wish on our cupcake tree.

Lofty Visions

Yes world, it's time for me to declare my newest direction. Transitioning from my life as a writer-dancer has meant about four years of indecision, two of which were spent getting my MBA and the other two moving on auto pilot with things that were already set in my life.

All that's fine, but I'm feeling that it's time to take charge again, be more proactive. I've been mulling over the steps and the biggest one is to envision what my next phase will be, picturing who the new Angel is, where he will live, what he will be doing for a living and the modes of expression that will be his daily mantras.

I unveil a lofty vision--a work-at-home living space that will be the focus of my financial efforts. It'll be a space that will inspire my daily productivity and be a manifestation of the zeal Bob and I have for life.

Jet Setters

My cousin Celia--on top of hosting us nuns from Nunsense two weekends ago--was preparing for a trip to Latvia with her husband Jim. She just posted a few cool pics from her travels. She's such a jet setter ...

Speaking of jet-setting, one of our nuns, Mikey, flew off to New York last weekend and our former Rev. Mother, Robert, went in the opposite direction to go to San Fran for Folsom Street Fair. (Leather rippp!) I hope to hear back from their adventures soon!

Fabu View

My cousin Celia has the greatest view from her penthouse loft in downtown L.A. We stayed there while doing Nunsense II last weekend. Here's a picture that cousin Angel took of us on the roof.

Perpetually Indulgent

Part of the success of our Nunsense show in Los Angeles were all the folks who came out, which were a lot of my relatives and the community at the church. But of course, we also had a visit from the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, who honored us by stopping by.

We also had a hoot by creating a put-your-face-through-the-hole and be a nun photo opportunity. That went over really well...

Hollywood Memories

Wow, where to begin. Our weekend in Hollywood was miraculous. The audiences were great; we did well (at least the second night, with the first night being great but a tad bumpy). And the nights at my cousin's downtown penthouse loft--with jacoussi--was fabu.

I'd have more pictures but I lost my camera while zipping off to a business trip these last three days in Washington, D.C. But my other cousin Sonny took these great photos ...

Off to Hollywood!

After last night's dress rehearsal of Nunsense II, I am completely confident that our weekend of shows in Los Angeles will be a huge hit. We had such a great response. People saw how the show is much more complicated than the first Nunsense we did last year in terms of choreography and music. And they really liked what we did in terms of updating the jokes.

It was great to have an audience prior to actually going to L.A. It's strange to know how long you have to wait to hear a response to a line. And if you don't wait, you stifle the audience's need to laugh. It'll be great take what we've learned from last night and try to make even more magic this weekend.

I'm off to L.A. first thing tomorrow. Everyone else flies in Friday morning. The nuns are on their way ... Next stop, Hollywood!

Dress for Success

It's about 5 a.m. and I'm excited about my full Sunday, Sept. 7. At noon will be our Anniversary Party for Asians and Friends, which will end about 4 p.m. Then I move to the Joel Hall Dance Center where I will be performing a dress rehearsal of the Nunsense II production we're taking to Los Angeles this coming week. We invited friends for the dress so we could have a sample audience to work with. Then I'm off to L.A. on Tuesday to handle last-minute marketing and to gather the props we need that we did not want to transport from Chicago. It's going to be an exciting week. This is what all the hard work was for. Wish us luck!

Labor of Love Days

Well, for me, these past few weeks of focusing on Nunsense II have been a merry distraction. Work had been high-pitched in that our big convention issue had to be put to bed and as of last Friday, my part has been completely finished (and not without a lot of headache let me say). But now with less than two weeks, we've got our Los Angeles performances upon us. We set an open dress rehearsal this Sunday at the Joel Hall Dance Center (7:30 p.m. wine and cheese, 8 p.m. dress rehearsal) and really have to put on a show in less than a week. We're at the top of the biggest hill on the rollercoaster and we've just heard the last click of the chain ...
